The last time I went there I had to practically step over a straight couple making out on my way to the bar. It's almost like it's not a gay club anymore. I've noticed a steady decline lately, actually. I'd like to say they got kicked out, but the people that run this club are more concerned about keeping the money flowing than anything else, so as long as there's no overt trouble they just leave things be. I felt so bad for the transgender woman whose night they may very well have ruined.

And not on my own account-because I wasn't the intended victim. He or she was mortified about it, of course, and I did my best sheepish smile to show I wasn't bothered by it.īut I was. :p So the pancake makeup and LBDs the teenyboppers wear when they show up make it pretty clear what they're about.Īt one point, there was a transgender woman (or a man in drag, I didn't really have a chance to ask) who was standing next to me at the edge of the room, but facing away from me, and one of these cunts thought it would be hilarious to push him/her towards me so that their ass was grinding on my leg.

But the typical attire for LGBT women at this place is usually more along the lines of jeans and a t shirt or baggy cargo pants. Since it's pretty much the only LGBT-friendly club in my town, we do get a diverse crowd. It was clear from the overly-made-up, plump women stuffed into cocktail dresses like sausages. There was some sort of bachelorette party going on. Certainly any who have endured an ass-grabbing drunk sorority girl rubbing her tits on you like she knows you.Ī little bit back I went to the one gay club in my town. Why is this an unpopular opinion? I think the majority of gay men out there agree with you. To be clear i don't necessarily have a problem with women going to gay bars, but respect the space you are in and understand when your presence isn't necessarily welcome (ie if it's underwear night and guys are jerking each other off in the urinal or whatnot, maybe best to move along if you're a straight girl). it also doesn't help that the bars more often than not enable it since they want/need their business. Unfortunately i think in many ways we are 'victims of our own success', fewer guys see a need to go to bars to meet other guys anymore, and the bars are increasingly seen as 'safe spaces' for straight women who don't want to get harassed by men. i can even think of a recent instance where a drunk girl smashed a glass in a friend's face, requiring stitches, over something minor, pretty sure she was bumping into him repeatedly and he asked her to stop and it escalated from there.

I've seen numerous instances of girls woohooing, getting way too drunk and puking everywhere, dancing when that's obviously not what the bar is about, there aren't very many gay bars here that even have enough space for that in the first place, and so on. i'd say on average they are a little more respectful at these sorts of places which are clearly 'not for them' but it's still far from universal. Tbh at least where i live (SF), they have started to find their way to the bear and leather bars too. → More repliesīear bars and bathhouses seem to be the only place exclusively gay anymore. It becomes even more stark when I skip a year or two and visit – seems like most of my friends back home have stopped going out entirely, and have to be dragged out by their ears. The slow, quiet death of gay Key West has been excruciating to witness over the last 16/17 years or so. I actually grew up there, and moved away some years ago. Saloon 1 was always a bit too much for my tastes watched enough ‘escorts’ get fucked back there that I’ll never look at a pool table the same way. I miss the days when Rhomba’s and Epoch were still around, Big Ruby’s was a gay locale, and Aqua was still popular for dancing after the show for predominantly men. 801 was always fine if you avoided the mess of a drag show, the garden bar was fine, Bobby’s Monkey Bar was alright. Shit going on fifteen year old porn, too. Surprised me, because they were still playing gay porn on all of the screens – not infrequently porn that featured locals, heh. I imagine they still do dueling bartenders, poker, etc., which were always more locals-oriented (albeit less the bar scene most young/middle-aged gay men are looking for).īourbon was awful last time I was in town so many straight guys (not just the strippers) who started coming because of the straight girls. I’m just glad the owners are gay once more.

It used to be a bit less mixed after the show, but I’ll forgive them – it’s the cost of surviving in Key West. Aqua’s been that way for years it survives because it’s a drag show (one of the best you’ll see, tbph) that caters towards a mixed crowd.
